WASHINGTON, June 8, 2023 - Department for Professional Employees, AFL-CIO (DPE) President Jennifer Dorning released the following statement in response to the news of the passing of AFL-CIO Chief Economist William Spriggs:

“DPE joins our affiliates and the broader labor movement in mourning the loss of AFL-CIO Chief Economist Bill Spriggs. Bill committed his life to advancing economic and racial justice, using his knowledge and acumen to shape policies that led to a more just, prosperous world for millions of working people. Bill always brought attention to the inequities in our economy and the urgent need for policies that allow all workers to earn a fair return on their work. Bill will be sorely missed, but his commitment to economic and racial equality will carry on in all of us who knew him. My thoughts are with Bill’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”
