The utility industry is in the midst of upheaval. A new 30-page report by the Department for Professional Employees, AFL-CIO examined the impact the upheaval had on the utility industry from 2003 to 2015 and identified potential organizing opportunities. The report found that industry changes affected all aspects of the industry, including utility companies, the workforce, and union membership.
Data and analysis in the report will be useful to any union with members in the utility industry or for those unions interested in pursuing organizing opportunities in the utility industry. While the report devotes significant space to detailing how the workforce and industry has changed, it offers readers ideas for where organizing opportunities may exist and looks to future organizing potential in an effort to rebuild union density.
The report is available to DPE affiliated unions. Please email DPE Research Director Jennifer Dorning for a copy of the report.
